World of Warcraft Beta Test is Now Live! - DAnthony on 03/18/04

The first round of emails has gone out, and the North American and Korean World of Warcraft beta tests have officially begun. If you didn’t receive an email, don’t worry; we’ll be adding more testers at the start of each upcoming beta-test phase. Keep an eye on www.blizzard.com for news on when we’ll be opening up the additional phases, because that will be your clue to check the email account you used to sign up. Also, anyone interested in tracking the progress of the beta test can visit our World of Warcraft Community Site, which will contain regular updates as well as general information about the game.

The beta tests for certain languages in Europe and some additional languages in the Asia–Pacific regions will take place at a later date. Please stay tuned to www.blizzard.com for more information.

-03/16/04 - Beta by  Bitorrent  ~Mouse

Blizzard updated the site today with their current plans for beta and the
WOW community site.  Pretty much what Kat said yesterday.  Link to official News.  Also, they mentioned the beta will be downloadable by the blizzard downloader which uses Bitorrent technology.  An alternate method to DL will be available several days after for those behind firewalls. Preparations for the World of Warcraft Beta Test - DAnthony 

As you all know, the World of Warcraft beta test is just around the corner. While we plan on having several ways available to distribute the files to everyone, our primary method will be through the Blizzard Downloader program, which uses BitTorrent technology.

To ensure that your system works with the Blizzard Downloader, please try downloading the World of Warcraft Cinematics: Sneak Peak or the Gryphon Ride Movie. If you encounter any problems, please check the BitTorrent FAQ or contact wowsupport@blizzard.com for help.

A fraction of our testers, who are behind firewalls, will not have access to the BitTorrent download method. If you fall into this category, an alternative download method will be made available to you within a few days of the initial Blizzard Downloader release.
 

World of Warcraft Beta Coming Soon
With the North American and Korean versions of the World of Warcraft beta test right around the corner, we are in the process of setting up our new World of Warcraft Community Site. During the beta test, this site will serve as a resource for the testers and provide the entire community with a place to follow what’s happening in the game.

We encourage you to visit www.worldofwarcraft.com to learn more about the game. We've already added more details on classes, basic gameplay information, and trade skills. Please note that this site will not be active until your Internet Service Provider (ISP) updates their DNS entry (address) for our new site. We encourage you to check back later if you do not see the new web site yet.

The Community Site will evolve continuously throughout the beta test; so stop by regularly to see what's new. Additionally, stay tuned to www.blizzard.com in the months ahead for information on future World or Warcraft beta tests for certain countries in Europe and some additional countries in Asia.

We’re in the process of setting up our new World of Warcraft Community Beta site and would like to invite each of you to stop by and check it out. To visit the site, go to http://www.worldofwarcraft.com or http://12.129.232.213/ where you will find a variety of game play guides and information.*

You can read more detailed information on the basics of the game, specific classes, and some of the trade skills. We'll continue to update that info guide throughout the beta and beyond. Check back there once a day Monday - Friday for any updates

Currently, no one can post in the Beta Forums. After Beta emails go out (very soon now) those with Beta Accounts will gain access to both post and read the forums.

Those of you that are not Beta Testers will still be able to read posts but will not be able to write posts in the beta forums. You will still be able to post in this public World of Warcraft forum.

Only Beta Testers will be able to create an account or log into the site.

wearing a crusader like robe over their armor with same color / symbol.  Maybe its the guild tabards?

-03/05/04  The Preparation to Glory  ~Mouse

The Cadian Inquisition has deemed our current equipment to old and obsolete to 

adequately protect Azeroth.  An order to upgrade the guilds arsenal was issued immediately.  Knowing that defying the Inquisition would be foolish, I allowed the order to be carried through.  Codex and myself were one of the first  forced to upgrade our current video cards to ATI Radeon 9800 Pro's.  It is a sad day, I must  say goodbye to my old Geforce4 MX ...... WTH.  who am I Kidding.   No more Lag for us wooooooooot!

Blizzard released another 10 new screenshots today.  They also 

announced  a new movie featuring a behind-the-scenes glimpse of World of  Warcraft’s opening cinematic.  That movie will be available Friday after 6pm PST.  Link to official announcement.

 We've switched from EZboard to forums run on our own server.

Everyone who had an old EZ account on our old forums will need to re-register their account again on our new ones.  The new forums can be found by clicking the forum link on the main page.  We're sorry for any inconvenience but its better we did it now than once the game is live and the boards are more active.

 The Life of a Fisherman  ~Mouse

A little teaser about fishing was posted by Kat last night.  It's a lot 

more than just casting a line and waiting 3 seconds to see what you caught, if you caught anything at all.  Its actually going to be a mini-game in its own that will require you to pay attention if you plan to catch that 30lbs fish! But fish aint the only thing you can catch, sunken treasures, notes in bottles, even lost magic boots were just examples of others.  All these tradeskills seem so tempting, I think i'd want them all.  Kat's post below, link to original post here.

Fishing is but one of the great tradeskills within World of Warcraft. It’s also the first mini-game that’s been incorporated into the world. This game takes a keen eye and a quick hand to snag the dunking bobber and reel in your catch of the day.

There are special poles and lures that will increase your chances at pulling in the big one .. and don’t forget to take a picture, you wouldn’t want folk thinkin' it a tall tale when you exclaim, “That Slitherskin Mackerel was 30 lbs!”

With so many things to snag on your line, who wouldn’t want to fish the day away .. especially on a fine day with the birds chirpin' and the water so calm and tranquil.

Why just the other day I snagged a lost pirate treasure! It was I tell you .. I had to get my husband to pick the lock and open it’s contents! I can’t tell you what was inside .. that would be going too far as I’m sure you be knowin' that if any of them there pirates still walk this earth they would be a comein' for me!

Oh, I’ve caught many a fish too and other secret items like messages in bottles, tales of folk in trouble! I helped them best I could I tell you and with rewards gained in the helping!

While fishing in the ocean I gathered such a feast; rockscale cod and slitherskin mackerel were plentiful and they cooked up just fine. Later that same week, I was 'round a pond and decided to try my luck. Oh that bristle whiskered catfish was a culinary delight once I finished braisin' it in some light butter and I found me a lovely pair of magical boots too!

Ahh fishing, good times to be had by all.

-03/01/04   Glimpse at Banking in WOW ~Codex

Blizzard released some info about the banking system in WOW

 today.  Seems to work pretty much like EQ except money will have no weight. 

 So it is not stored in the bank but carried on you everywhere.
